Phuket is a large tourist island just off the west coast of Thailand, although now connected by a bridge to the mainland. Phuket Island lies around 870km south of Bangkok and at 570 square km it is the largest and most visited island in Thailand.

Getting to Phuket

There are two ways of arriving on Phuket with the most popular way being by air with direct flights available domestically from Bangkok and Koh Samui. International flights arrive directly from Singapore, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpa. There are a few other international routes in planning at the moment so this could increase soon. The main airline’s flying to Phuket are Bangkok Airways and Thai Air.
Secondly, you can arrive by car or bus with a large bridge connecting Phuket to the mainland at Phang Nga for easy access.

The weather in Phuket is very pleasant most of the year round with the low season around October and November receiving most of the rainfall. The rest of the year the average temperature is around 30 degrees Celsius which is 86 degrees Fahrenheit.

The Big Buddha

Old Phuket Town
Despite what you may think by looking at Patong's Bangla Street, Chinese temples and ancient colonial architecture still exist on the island. Heading to Phuket Town is a great way to inject a little culture into your stay and remind yourself that this really is Thailand! Visit oriental shophouses dating back to the 19th century and grand Portuguese mansions constructed from tin boom profits.
